Meghan and Harry enjoyed a "last cheer" before becoming parents – with romantic walks, enjoyable dinners with a firelighter and luxurious treatments in a posh hotel.

They spent three nights at Heckfield Place, Hampshire, at £ 10,000 a night.

The apartment has its own dining room and two private terraces.

The couple left Kensington Palace for Frogmore Cottage in Windsor after a £ 3 million repair to prepare them for their new family.

The construction work was complete because they were changing their minds about the design.

They will pay for the fixtures, but the conversion work is funded by the taxpayers.

About the three-night stay at the Georgian Hotel, the boyfriend said, "They wanted absolute rest and relaxation, and Meghan was really drawn to the hotel's organic philosophy, which produces most of its food in a farm on the spot.

"It was very cold. They went for a walk in their boots, Meghan sits on a swing in love hanging on a tree and they ate some delicious food.

"She particularly enjoyed the hotel's specialties, candied chocolate-covered oranges and home-grown vegetables from the country."

The couple fled the other guests in the evening for dinners by the fire in their room.

It is unclear whether they paid full fare at the hotel, which has a spa and a cinema and which belongs to American billionaire Gerald Chan.

But the bill, including £ 350 a night, rooms for three protection officers, could have exceeded £ 33,000.

Kensington Palace declined to comment.
