Footballer Lionel Messi is suspended from international matches for Argentina for three months after being accused of corruption at Copa America last month.
The South American football group CONMEBOL also fined Messi $ 50,000 for his comments after Argentina's 2-1 win over Chile in the third place of the tournament in Brazil in July.
Messi, captain of Argentina, was only scooped for the second time of his career during the match against Chile in Sao Paulo, following a fight with Gary Medel, also expelled.
Messi avoided the medal ceremony in protest and later said that Argentina "should not take part in this corruption".
The Argentine also said the tournament was scheduled for Brazil, which beat Argentina in the semifinals.
He also complained of the Copa America's refereeing after Argentina's 0-2 defeat against Brazil in the semifinals.
The ruling body at the time called the charges "unfounded" and "unacceptable".
Messi and Argentina have another week to appeal the decision, which prevents the striker from playing in four friendly matches this year.
Aged 32 and captain of FC Barcelona, he will not play for Argentina in September against Chile and Mexico, nor for two other matches in October.
Neither Messi nor the Argentine Football Association have commented on CONMEBOL's decision.
Messi has already been fined $ 1,500 and is suspended in the first match of the South American Football World Cup qualifiers next March for his Copa America red card.
When asked if he was worried about being suspended for his comments, he replied, "You have to tell the truth."
Messi later apologized to CONMEBOL for his remarks.
