Djokovic is at the level of Andre Agbadi on six titles of the Miami Open

The world number one, Novak Djokovic, returned to victory after a two-run win over Australian Bernard Tomic to qualify for the third round of the Miami Open.

Serbia's Djokovic, who lost in the third round at Indian Wells last week, beat Tomic 7-6 (7-2) 6-2.

Aged 31, he is aiming for a seventh record title in Miami and will then face Federico Delbonis of Argentina.

Britain's Dan Evans will face Canadian Denis Shapovalov later on Saturday.

"I had a lot of time on the ground between [my] Defeat of Indian Wells in singles and tonight's match, "said Djokovic, 15-time Grand Slam champion.

"I've been working on everything I needed to work on, and now it's only a matter of time to create the momentum and build that game."

Elsewhere, Austria's Dominic Thiem, who defeated Roger Federer on Sunday at Indian Wells, missed the Sunshine Slam, sinking 6-4 6-4 against Poland's Hubert Hurkacz.
