MMA legend Michael Bisping believes Conor McGregor will fail in the welterweight division. The 42-year-old also believes the Irishman wouldn’t do well in a fight against reigning UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman.
In a recent appearance on the True Geordie podcast, Michael Bisping opened up about several topics, including Conor McGregor.
In the episode, Geordie said McGregor is not expected to transition to welterweight at the moment, given his recent losses. Bisping agreed and said:
“Imagine what Kamaru Usman would do to him. I’m not saying this as a McGregor hater. And I’m not a fucking hater. I respect all of the work he did, but not the antics and the latest performances. But him against Usman, Jesus Christ! Go on. Him versus (Jorge) Masvidal even, you know what I mean. Look what Masvidal did to (Nate) Diaz. And I know MMA math doesn’t stack, but come on. “
Aside from a 180-pound weight fight, all other professional MMA fights in Kamaru Usman’s career have been contested at welterweight (170 pounds).
Meanwhile, Conor McGregor has competed in three weight classes during his MMA career namely Featherweight (145 lbs), Lightweight (155 lbs) and Welterweight (170 lbs).

The dominance of Kamaru Usman and the long-awaited return of Conor McGregor
Kamaru Usman is undefeated in the UFC and has only one loss on his professional MMA record – a submission loss he suffered early in his career. He is currently the number one fighter pound for pound in the UFC men’s rankings.
“The Nigerian Nightmare” is set to continue his reign of domination in 2021, having already secured victories against Gilbert Burns and Jorge Masvidal earlier this year. His next fight will be a rematch against Colby Covington at UFC 268 on November 6, 2021.
Meanwhile, Conor McGregor’s most recent fight was a first round loss by TKO (doctor save) in his trilogy clash against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in July 2021. The 33-year-old is moved to 0-2 in 2021, with his two losses coming via TKO in a pair of light fights against Poirier.
Conor McGregor recently announced a potential move to middleweight as well as a welterweight run on his return. Currently, he is recovering from a leg injury he sustained during the trilogy fight against Poirier.
