Ghanaian midfielder Michael Essien has been offered a contract to play and coach for Sabail FC in Azerbaijan.
Essien, who left the Indonesian team Persip Bandung last year, signed a 15-month contract with the club until May 2020.
The former star of Chelsea and AC Milan seized the opportunity to play for the European team and join the club's under-19 coaching staff to gain coaching experience as part of his career in the dugout.
Essien, 36, will join his new teammates after an international break and play until the end of the season, then resume next season.
He will also badist the Under-19 coaching team for his experience as part of his UEFA B qualification, a continuation of the coaching he has done with Chelsea U16. .
