Microsoft has released an official announcement detailing new developments in their Azure cloud services. The technology giant is focusing on AI, mixed reality, blockchain and the Internet of Things (IoT) for its hybrid cloud and its advanced computing.
With 95 percent of Fortune 500 customers using Azure, Microsoft is deploying new developments that will leverage emerging technologies. Artificial intelligence and blockchain are the two main areas of interest to society.
Developments in AI, blockchain, etc.
One of the unveiled Azure technologies will expand the use of AI by Microsoft, according to its announcement.
Azure Cognitive Services will allow applications to see, hear, respond, translate, reason, and so on. Through cognitive search capabilities, Azure Research will apply algorithms to provide information and recommendations for richer experiences.
In addition to AI, Azure will also double its investment in the blockchain. Last year, Microsoft unveiled its Azure Blockchain Workbench. It provides blockchain developers with a simple user interface for modeling their applications. However, Microsoft is expanding this effort with its Azure Blockchain Service (ABS) service.
The Azure Blockchain service simplifies the training, management, and governance of blockchain networks. With integrated governance, teams can now more easily integrate new members, set permissions, and authenticate identities.
Even more exciting, J.P. Morgan's Ethereum platform, Quorum, is the first registry now available on ABS. Microsoft and JP Morgan customers can now upgrade their blockchain in the Azure cloud.
Other areas described in the announcement include advances in machine learning and the Internet of Things (called "Intelligent Edge").
Subsequent developments
In light of these announcements, Microsoft will bring together more than 6,000 developers in Seattle next week for a conference. The subject will be on cloud computing, blockchain and AI. Although the next generation of Microsoft services looks promising, the company has announced that others will still be presented next week at the Build conference.
It goes without saying that Microsoft's commitment to blockchain, AI and other emerging technologies should certainly give investors hope. We are certainly on the brink of the next stage of our technological evolution.
