After a little over 10 years, Microsoft abandons its Healthvault digital patient record. On November 20, 2019, the service will be disconnected and all the data it contains will be deleted.
Microsoft will stop its Healthvault digital patient record later this year. As Zdnet reports, an email to users indicates that the service will be phased out on November 20, 2019. All patient data contained therein will be removed.
For the first time, Microsoft launched Healthvault 2007 during a test phase in the United States. 2009 was the official start. The goal was apparently to compete with Google Health. Patients were able to use the service to record their medical history and then share the data with health professionals. In Europe, however, the launch was slow, due in part to concerns about patient data protection. Microsoft reminds users that their own patient data must be uploaded or migrated to another service by November 20, 2019, otherwise they will be deleted and permanently lost.
