The government said the mid-year budget review, which will be presented by the finance minister on July 29, will include raising government revenue to fund outstanding coordinated programs of social and economic policies.

The constitution requires each administration to prepare a coordinated program of social and economic policies with which it will govern. Annual budget programs are designed to fund and execute part of this program each fiscal year.

Speaking to reporters in Accra on Sunday, Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah said that although the Akufo-Addo administration believes it will regularly fulfill its commitments to Ghanaians, the mid-term review of the budget will give him an opportunity to review the availability of income. to run the remaining programs, key among them the infrastructure.

"This is why the revenue mobilization put forward in the 2019 budget will remain a key element of the mid-term review. The goal will be to ensure that the government mobilizes enough resources to fully honor the remaining commitments, "he said.

The minister said that "it is refreshing to see the vigor with which Ghanaians responded to the president's call to be citizens and not spectators and, therefore, they called the government to settle some national issues diligently. Hopefully, this same vigor will translate into our revenue mobilization efforts to ensure that we fund and fully deliver the outstanding programs. "

The government has already begun to work to reduce some of the avoidable expenses, such as the ongoing work on reducing capacity burdens that we do not consume.

Nkrumah said the government hoped that reducing avoidable spending while increasing revenues would create more fiscal space to finance and implement the remaining programs as part of medium-term spending.
