Young Harvey Elliott of Fulham is expected to join Liverpool this summer, according to reports.

The 16-year-old can not sign a professional contract until he turns 17 in April and has given up a Fulham scholarship.

German club RB Leipzig and the European giants Real Madrid and Paris Saint Germain made the court at Elliott, but the Telegraph said that Liverpool won the race for the prestigious Englishman.

Liverpool will have to pay a large compensation to Fulham for Elliott's poaching.

The midfielder is the last of a long list of impressive youngsters to graduate from the Fulham Academy. Ryan Sessegnon, Patrick Roberts and Moussa Dembele are all out of the ranks of the club's youth.

Elliott will become Liverpool's second rookie of the summer after the Reds have recruited talented Dutch defender Sepp van den Berg into their ranks.

Van Den Berg teamed up with his new teammates for the pre-season, but like Elliott, he will make his way through the Liverpool Academy teams before moving on to the first team.

Jurgen Klopp enjoys an excellent reputation in the development of young talents. Joe Gomez and Trent Alexander-Arnold, former stars of youth, are now regulars of the first team.

Liverpool is not expected to have a busy summer season, as Klopp aims to consolidate his team instead of making major changes.

Liverpool will play its first pre-season game Thursday against Tranmere Rovers before facing Bradford City this weekend.

The Reds will then travel to America for their pre-season, with Copa America winners Roberto Firmino and Alisson and Africa Cup of Nations participants Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah, who will join the group after an extended vacation.
