Two years after leaving behind a legendary ten-year career in Chelsea for Chinese Super League club Tianjin TEDA, midfielder Mikel John Obi has returned to England.
The 31-year-old Munich hero signed today with the Middlesbrough formation, joining former Chelsea hopeful George Saville in a midfielder already cluttered by manager Tony Pulis.
Mikel became a free agent this winter after two seasons in China, where his team finished 13th and 14th in a 16-team competition. Boro, who unsurprisingly has the best defense of the division (only 20 goals conceded in 28 games, 9 less than the next best team), will probably hope that Mikel will provide more leadership and competition to players like Mo Bešić. (who accidentally gave the ball away for badistance to the back of Mikel's heel against Everton in 2014).
It's not hard to see how Mikel and Pulisball could flourish and Middlesborough hopes to advance his promotion. They currently sit in fifth place, just one point ahead of Frank Lampard County in Derby County, who recently brought another Chelsea legend to England by signing Ashley Cole for the remainder of the season.
Good luck to everyone!
