MILFORD, Mbad. – A seventh grade student at Stacy Middle School in Milford died of an influenza-related illness, according to Michael Walsh, president of the Selectman Board of Milford.

Walsh told Boston 25 News that Selectmen 's board of directors was informed of the death around 7 pm Thursday.
The 12-year-old died at Milford Hospital, where he was being treated.

"The community of Milford sends our prayers and our most sincere wishes," said Walsh, "we are sad and we feel your pain."
Milford Public School Superintendent Kevin McIntyre sent the following statement to Boston 25 News:
"We are all deeply saddened by the death of [Boston 25 News is withholding the name out of respect for the student’s family] who was a student at Stacy Middle School. He was a beloved member of our school community. Our teachers, students and families are mourning their students, clbadmates and friends. We are committed to helping our students through this difficult time. "
This is the first flu-related death in Mbadachusetts this season.
Terri McDonald, spokesperson for the Milford Hospital, told Boston on 25 News:
"The hospital respects the confidentiality of patients and provides no information about patients."
Dr. Ali Raja, vice president of the Department of Emergency Medicine at Mbadachusetts General Hospital, recommended everyone to get a flu shot, if it is not already done, to protect themselves.
"The flu, unfortunately, is particularly serious for children and those with preexisting conditions," said Raja. "Children as young as four can catch the flu and if they have preexisting conditions, it's worse."
