News reaching YEN.com.gh reports that military officers shot dead a taxi driver in the town of Asamankese, in the eastern region.

The incident occurred on Monday, April 5, 2021.

There has been a massive public outcry since the gruesome murder of the 33-year-old identified as Yaw George.

Roadblocks have been erected on the city’s main thoroughfare by angry residents demanding justice for their crippled parents. Angry residents also besieged the town’s police station for the heinous murder, sources familiar with the development said. YEN.com.gh.

According to a report filed by Starrfm.com.gh, the 33-year-old deceased was shot dead on Monday morning while driving a taxi registered GR 3847-21 and escorting a truck carrying his wood.

Military officers reported by the outlet were chasing the logging truck and the now deceased taxi driver. Police opened fire through the car’s rear windshield, instantly killing the 33-year-old as they approached the police barrier on Asamankese Road in Accra.

“They shot him to the dead”, based in Accra Starr FM cited an eyewitness.

“They even abandoned him and were still chasing the truck, so it was the police who noticed the shooting incident and chased the military officers to report themselves to the police,” the witness added.

Eastern Regional Police Command Acting Public Relations Officer Sergeant Francis Gomado confirmed the incident saying the media will be notified once the preliminary investigation is completed.

Meanwhile, four military officers and five civilians were arrested in the Gomoa Est district of the central region.

According to a report filed by Citi News, the nine, all armed with rifles, stole the executive career site at Gomoa Ojobi and bolted on 10,000 GHS.

They also recovered an IBM laptop, an HP laptop, two system units, a money counting machine, a printer and two security cameras, all valued at GHS 20,000.

Speaking to the media, Central Regional Police PRO, DSP Irene Oppong, said the director of the company filed a complaint after the incident at around 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 18, 2020.
