Neil Harris expressed his sympathy for the Millwall unit in the group after his team won an impressive 2-0 win in Birmingham on Wednesday.
A first-half double from Ben Thompson eased the Lions' relegation fears and propelled them to 19th in the league standings, their first win in five league games.
"Tonight, I chose a team that could compete with Birmingham and cause problems in the counterattack," said the Lions boss, Harris. "The guys were exceptional. Ben Thompson will have the applause, of course he will do it for goals, but I think he'll be the first to admit that the team itself was excellent. "
It was asked why all players and coaching staff had gathered on the field full time – forming a circle – said Harris. "It was to show our solidarity, an opportunity to say congratulations to the players. These are the standards that we have established and must keep until the end of the season.
"It was to show fans, you and fans who have not survived – that you can criticize us as much as you want, but we are a strong group and we do our best for the club. In the end, that's all I can ask my players. "
