Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta will appear before Parliament today, Wednesday, to report on President Akufo-Addo’s recent overseas trips to France, Belgium and South Africa.

It will also provide the House with the cost of air travel taken by former President John Dramani Mahama from 2013 to 2016.

This information was requested by Dormaa Est MP Paul Apreku Twum-Barimah.

On the issue of the free SHS policy, raised by Builsa South MP Dr Clement Apaak, the Minister will inform Parliament if the government has taken out loans to fund the initiative.

On June 7, Mr. Ofori-Atta was summoned to the House to provide clarification on the matter after North Tongu MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa alleged that the president’s trip on the G-Kelt plane instead the presidential jet cost £ 15,000 per hour.

The sector minister, however, did not show up, pleading for an extension to allow him to adequately prepare.

Since this development, the minority side of the House has described the absence of the Minister of Finance as disappointing and a sad day for accountability and good governance.

They further threatened to propose a vote of no confidence to remove Mr. Ken Ofori-Atta from office if he failed to report to the general public.

Meanwhile, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, who has been at the forefront of the issue, holding the government to account, prayed for the House to receive a real debrief today.

“I hope the Minister of Finance will be frank, transparent and irreproachable with the House after the ordeal,” Ablakwa said, addressing the House.

On the other hand, Mr. Ofori-Atta Atta is also expected to present the Mid-Term Review of Government Budget and Economic Policy and Supplementary Budget for Fiscal Year 2021 on Thursday, July 29, 2021.
