Health Minister Kwaku Agyemang-Manu inaugurated one of five new polyclinics built by the government in the Greater Accra region.

The five polyclinics are under construction for a total cost of 13.5 million euros.

Inaugurating the polyclinic of Oduman, a suburb of Ablekuma in the Ga West municipality, the minister told the other four: the Bortianor Polyclinic in the Ga South Municipality, the Municipal Polyclinic of the District 39; Ada West, Polyclinic Ashaiman of Ashaiman Municipality and Polyclinic Ogbojo in Adentan

Municipality – would be inaugurated at the end of next week.

Work on the projects started in May 2017.

Capacity

Each of the facilities includes 30-bed capacity rooms, a simple operating room, a laboratory, an x-ray service, a pharmacy, a consultation room, a cold room and two staff bungalows.

They have been designed to provide services for the ears, nose and throat; maternity, family planning, surgery, pediatric care, general consultations and ambulatory cases.

Mr. Agyeman-Manu said that the establishment of such equipment was part of the government's efforts to achieve universal health coverage and prioritize primary health care for all.

He added that the five polyclinics were well equipped to meet the health needs of the beneficiary communities in order to reduce the burden on tertiary institutions, in particular.

"People will not have to walk all the time in big hospitals to look for care in conditions that can easily be treated at the primary level. If it is necessary to refer any case to a higher institution, the responsible doctors will do it, "he said.

Agyeman-Manu said the ministry and its stakeholders had declared zero tolerance for maternal and neonatal deaths and poor client relationships, and had given the desired staff orientation. to this goal.

This, he said, could be realized because it had been done at Shai Osudoku Hospital.

Mr. Agyeman-Manu appealed to residents for them to take advantage of the facility and promised that the roads leading to the hospital would soon be repaired.

Indeed, the clear roads leading to the polyclinic were full of potholes, the Daily Graphic noted.

The bumpy and muddy nature of the roads tainted the excitement of the inhabitants of Oduman and, although they applauded the speakers at the inauguration, intermittent cries from the audience urged the authorities to repair the road.

Some young men have even suggested that they would prefer that their roads be developed for the provision of any other infrastructure.

Dr. Anthony Nsiah-Asare, Director General of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), said the facility would work on the national health insurance scheme and called on all residents to join the scheme or to renew their registration.

He added that the GHS, for its part, helped the government to ensure a healthy population through quality primary health care, which gave priority to prevention.

He therefore appealed to the beneficiaries to visit the facility at any time for general and regular reviews.

The medical director of the polyclinic, Mr. David Donkor, as well as the religious and traditional leaders of the community, expressed their gratitude to the government for this center, which would make a significant contribution to improving the health of the beneficiary communities.
