She thanked the Chapter for its contributions to the development of some rural communities in Ghana.
On Friday, March 15, 2019, the Honorable Mavis Hawa Koomson, Minister of Special Development Initiatives and Member of Parliament of Awutu Senya East constituency, paid a courtesy call to the NPP-NY section at his working visit to the United States.
In her speech, she took the opportunity to express her deep gratitude to the Chapter for its financial contributions and humanitarian interventions in some of Ghana's critical rural communities.
The Minister responsible for Special Initiatives, including the "One Million Dollar" Policy, has taken the time to describe some of the more than three thousand projects undertaken to date and ongoing in conjunction with the * MCE and DCE * respective constituencies.
The Honorable Hawa Koomson, in his speech, rebadured Ghanaians in the United States on the delivery of the 275 ambulances expected by June this year.
The chapter, for their part, took advantage of the minister's visit to express some concerns to the chair. * The paramount * on the list was the depreciation of the cedi against the dollar.
On behalf of the Chapter, the Vice President, Mr. Issah Ballah Saeed, emphasized that, although depreciation is a major concern, its performance compared to the previous administration was better. He also said that "since the NPP promised better living conditions to the good people of Ghana, we have no excuse for meeting the expectations of Ghanaians in our home and the diaspora".
Once again, the Vice President urged the government to do its utmost to reduce import duties and tariffs.
The Minister briefly responded to both concerns by adding that "as a Cabinet Member, she can confirm that rigorous measures are being taken to stabilize the depressing cedi and that this is of concern to everyone, especially the Vice President who leads the economic management team. She then badured Ghanaians to look forward to an improvement after the Minister of Finance returned from her current tour of presentation.
In her closing remarks, the Minister thanked all members and urged them to be patient and trust the government and President Nana Akufo-Addo to keep the promises made to the people of Ghana.
