A kenkey party was held Friday in the Finance Ministry court to celebrate what has been labeled Ghana's "hat trick".

On a banner spotted by 3news.com, the party would have been organized to mark the success of the Euro-bond, the completion of the IMF-ECF program and the Cedi's appreciation.

Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta was spotted on the photos eating what looked like the local Waakye staple in traditional leaves that usually accompany it.

But most of the employees were seen eating kenkey.

Google is excused for posting the wrong cedi exchange rate – Ministry of Finance

The Ministry of Finance said that Google had apologized for posting a wrong exchange rate for the Ghana cedi.

Google's currency converter posted last Friday an incorrect exchange rate for the cedi, rising to more than 22 Cedis for a dollar while the real rate was about four times lower.

Titi Akinsanmi, Head of Public Policy and Government Relations for Francophone Africa and West Africa, in a letter to the Minister of Finance and the Governor of the Bank of Ghana acknowledged that the quoted exchange rate was a mistake due to a "small problem" but was "quickly corrected".

Titi Akinsanmi, in his letter, said that Google was always trying to provide accurate and useful information to its visitors, but was facing temporary difficulties that would lead to situations such as last week.

"Our goal is always to provide people with the most relevant and useful information to help them make the right decisions. But sometimes, temporary problems can lead people to unwanted experiences, like last Friday. It was unfortunate, "Ms. Akinsanmi said.

Many Ghanaians who identified the figure as an anomaly took Google in various comments on social networks.

Although the country's currency performed badly last week, the amount cited by Google is outrageous and leaves many unbelievers.

Nigeria, Ghana's neighbor in West Africa, has recently been affected by the glitch.

The naira, according to Google, was trading at twice the expected amount compared to its major currencies.

The Pakistan rupee suffered the same fate in January 2019.
