An independent presidential candidate said mismanagement of peak energy loads was the source of intermittent power cuts in Ghana.

Before Marricke Kofi Gane's comments on the dinner show with Joy FM [SMS] On Tuesday, experts said the energy crises were due to the government's inability to power power plants.

Monday, during the SMS, the Executive Director of the African Center for Energy Policy [ACEP]Benjamin Boakye said the government was struggling to find money to buy gasoline from power plants and electricity generation. "We do not have fuel," said Ben Boakye.

Ghana has an installed capacity of nearly 4,420 MW (consisting of facilities and dams), nearly 100% more than it needs. The country only needs 2,500 megawatts at peak hours to power its homes or businesses.

But Kofi Gane doubts it. According to him, the rationing of the energy should not have lasted so long if it was only a simple fuel generator.

According to him, the solution is to distribute loads evenly by balancing domestic uses at night with those of factories during the day.

"Manufacturing companies should move manufacturing activities into areas of the day that can provide a balance to those who need it at night," he said.

Gane said that it was difficult to blame the current challenge of the energy distribution service [PDS], the company that recently took over from the Electricity Company of Ghana, because it only manages the inefficiencies that it has inherited.

According to him, the PDS will need a little time to implement its long-term programs to address the challenges of the energy sector.

However, he blamed the PDS for not announcing a timetable to help energy consumers regulate their energy consumption, whether for domestic or professional purposes. "Such non-disclosure is a lack of respect for consumers," he said.

Marricke Kofi Gane has announced his candidacy for the 2020 elections and is expected to run against President Akufo-Addo (NPP), the NDC flag bearer and former President John Mahama.

In a recent statement announcing his candidacy for the presidency, the Chartered Accountant, an international development practitioner who authored 11 books to his credit, said his experiences working with different governments around the world had better positioned him to tackling the problems of Ghana equip, motivate and direct young people.
