The missing plane of Cardiff striker Emiliano Sala and pilot David Ibbotson was found Sunday after a private search.

The investigators located the wreck on the seabed of the Channel and then communicated the latest development to the families of the people on board.

Emiliano Sala left Nantes for Cardiff for a record 15 million pounds sterling during the January transfer, but a plane carrying the Argentinean and Ibbotson pilot from France to Wales disappeared on 21st January.

Rescuers and the Guernsey police stopped the search after several days without result, but Emiliano Sala 's sister organized the GoFundMe page and resulted in a private search that eventually found the plane.

"The wreck of the plane carrying Emiliano Sala and flown by David Ibbotson was found early this morning" Marine scientist David Mearns, who led the research, said on Twitter.

Mearns said that the British Air Accident Investigation Branch (AAIB) had moved his vessel to the position her team had located to visually identify the aircraft with the help of a remotely operated vehicle.

"The families of Emiliano Sala and David Ibbotson have been notified by the police.The AAIB will make a statement tomorrow.This evening, our only thoughts are with Emiliano's families and friends and David " Said Mearns.
