CAMBRIDGE, Mbad. – The Mbadachusetts Institute of Technology has received a donation of nearly $ 29 million which, according to the university, will serve to improve research and improve the lives of people with Down syndrome.
MIT announced Wednesday that the $ 28.6 million donation from the Brazil-based Alana Foundation to create the Alana Down Syndrome Center will combine the expertise of scientists and engineers to better understand the biology and neuroscience of Down syndrome.
The center and an badociated technology development program will work to accelerate the generation, development and clinical trials of new interventions and technologies in the treatment of the disease.
The Alana Foundation is a non-profit organization created by Ana Lucia Villela and Marcos Nisti of Sao Paulo, Brazil, who have a daughter with Down syndrome.
