Mr. Akoto expressed these feelings when he went to a West District District Directors' Durbar as part of his two-day working visit to the region.

Akoto said the western region was strategic in Ghana's agri-food system, which required constant sharing and flow of information for decision-making. Attracting the attention of district leaders, the MOFA minister urged them to play their supervisory role and provide the leadership needed to ensure the success of policies and programs as district political leaders.

He added that the country could do more to reverse mbadive imports of rice by a billion dollars by improving the performance of the sector in order to meet local needs or even export.

The minister said the sector has put in place policies to transform the country's agricultural economy with many interventions to improve the standard of living of farmers. "Our farmers must be considered rich and that is what our government is working on."

The minister inspected ongoing projects in the area in Ahanta West, Tarkwa and Shama districts.
