A mother gave birth to a 13 ounce "miracle" baby in just 23 weeks.
Ellonn Smartt, 25, from Des Moines, Iowa, was due to give birth on November 6, but on July 11, her waters erupted.
She was taken to the hospital, where the doctors told her that they had to perform a caesarean section urgently.
"They said I was going to have to deliver in a couple of days and that there was a good chance it would not survive," Ellonn said today.
"It was the moment when I fell to pieces."
The "heartbroken" mother knew that she had to do everything in her power to stay calm so that her baby would not be hurt.
And soon after arriving at the hospital, Ellonn and her partner Jordan Morrow welcomed their little boy named Jaden Wesley Morrow.
He weighed only 13 ounces – about the same size as his father's hand.
The average weight of a full-term male baby is 7 pounds and 6 ounces.
The newborn is now fighting for his life in intensive care, but is getting stronger every day.
"I knew that if I panicked, the baby would understand that and become stressed," said Ellonn, who also has a three-year-old son.
"I could not let that happen."
Although the parents have not yet managed to hold their baby because he is still in an incubator, they "will talk to him and I tell him I'm proud of him every day".
Little Jaden will be released from the hospital on its scheduled date of November 6th.
"For the most part, Jaden is stable," said Ellonn.
"He is under ventilation and has had a small infection, but his doctors think he looks good. He takes milk and puts on weight. "

She added, "His arms and toes were moving and he was trying to breathe on his own. He is our little miracle. "
A GoFundMe page has been created for the family and has since raised more than $ 2,500.
In the voice of little Jaden, the next point is this: "Weighing just 13 ounces, I am already amazed by the doctors.
"I've heard them use terms like" amazing "and" remarkable "to describe me so far – not bad for someone under 1 pound, huh?
"My parents and my grandmother will use this site to let you know how I'm going to the NICU."
