A woman whose tongue has been removed to fight cancer now has a new one made from her arm. Joanna Smith, 58, a grandmother of four, is a non-smoker, but was diagnosed with tongue cancer after spotting a tiny "ulcer" in her mouth. She had eight months to live unless she had been removed. She had 15 hours of surgery. The doctors shot his tongue through a hole in his neck and made a new one using the skin, muscles and a long vein in his left arm. The housekeeper in Clapham, Bedfordshire, was able to speak when she woke up and can now eat and drink on her own.
