PARIS (Reuters) – AS Monaco has sacked vice president Vadim Vasilyev after "major mistakes," President Dmitry Rybolovlev said Thursday.

"Major mistakes were made last year and led to our worst results in seven years," said Russian Rybolovlev in a statement posted on the Principality's website.

"It's time to change, and these changes are not only about the team, but also the direction, which is why I decided to release Vadim Vasilyev from his duties as vice president."

Monaco currently ranks third in Ligue 1, one point below the safe zone, after a slight improvement in form after the resumption of former coach Leonardo Jardim last month to replace Thierry Henry, sacked.

The Portuguese Jardim, 44, who led the club to the title of champion of France and semifinals of the Champions League in 2017, was sacked last October after a poor start to the season.

Former Monegasque player Henry, formerly Arsenal and the French striker, was hired to replace Jardim but failed to get the club out of the danger zone during his first job as a manager.
