Following confirmation that Loki is gender fluid, Marvel Studio Executive Vice President of Film Production Victoria Alonso has revealed that there will be more LGBTQ + representation in the MCU.
Speaking to Variety at the Black Widow Fan Premiere in Hollywood, Alonso explained that while it will take a while, there are “so many stories we can tell” with LGBTQ + characters.
“It takes time, we have so many stories to tell,” Alonso said. “We will empower those who are. We are not changing anything. We’re just showing the world who these people are, who these characters are… There are a lot of things that we have to come that I think will be representative of the world today. We’re not going to nail it in the first movie or the second or the third movie, or the first or the second show, but we’ll do our best to try to always represent.
Echoing Loki actor Tom Hiddleston’s comments on this, Alonso said the decision to make Loki fluid isn’t as complicated as you might think.
“I have to be honest with you, that’s okay,” Alonso explained. “That’s what it is when it suits the character. We’re not going to do it because it’s politically correct or incorrect. It’s like that. Remember, we follow our comics. We follow our comics. let’s try to follow them all the way in. So in the comics, that’s who he was.
