Nancy Pelosi, president of the United States House of Representatives, urged the government to continue supporting smart development strategies aimed at sustainable economic growth in the country and in Africa.
She added that while Ghana is leading intra-African trade, much more needs to be done to diversify the economy.
She was speaking Wednesday in parliament during a visit to Ghana to mark the 400th anniversary of the arrival of the first African slaves to Jamestown.
"Together, our government must continue to support smart development strategies that spur sustainable economic growth and raise all families in Ghana and Africa."
"Ghana is already a leader in Italian-African trade, but we must do more to diversify economies and encourage trade across the continent to create the regional security and stability necessary for the prosperity of the economy. West Africa, "she added.
She emphasized that the government "must create educational and economic opportunities for every student and worker to climb the ladder".
