More than 100 members of the armed forces and police managed to contain further violence in the Chereponi district of the Northeast region, following clashes between the Konkonba and Chokosi ethnic groups.
A person was confirmed dead after a shootout at a wedding ceremony in Nawiek, a Friday family community.
Tahiru Abdul Razak, general manager of the region, told Joy News that the Konkonbas had attacked the celebrants in the farming community near the capital, Chereponi.
Razak said security was strengthened to avoid reprisal attacks.
"As I speak, I have 75 military on the ground [with] about 40 police officers, to maintain public order, "he added.
According to the WFD, the violence has spread to other communities than Naweik. In Nasoni, for example, several houses were burned down, he said.
Prolonged violence
The relatively small city of northern Ghana has recently witnessed a number of community-based violence related to a fundamental disagreement over land issues and political representation.
The two ethnic groups in Chereponi District, Northern Region, have been engaged in violence since the New Year.
Konkombas, the majority in the district, and Chokosis, a minority group, made headlines for all the wrong reasons on a piece of land.
