More than 200,000 people will benefit from a peri-urban and rural water supply project

Accra, March 31, GNA –
Cabinet approved the implementation of peri-urban and rural water supply
project in 450 sites in the regions of Volta, East, Greater Accra and Ashanti.

Water supply
The project would benefit 225,000 people in line with the sustainable development agenda.
Development Objective (SDG) -Six to provide drinking water and sanitation facilities to all.

The project would
provide clean and reliable drinking water to residents of these areas using
advanced technology and would run over 18 months.

It would also maximize
social and health benefits, improve school attendance and reduce risk
diseases among the population.

This would imply
cashless payment and data collection system integrated with its
implemented to ensure that revenues are easily captured, managed and secured
in advance of any water distribution.

Mr. Kojo Oppong
Nkrumah, the Minister of Information, who announced it during a press briefing,
Accra, on Sunday, said the government was embarking on the project as part of
measures to take care of unserved and hard-to-reach rural communities and to improve
strategy to improve the supply of water supply, sanitation and hygiene facilities
for the people.
