The mother of one of the victims of the Ejura shooting has demanded justice for her son and all the other victims of the violent protest that erupted in the city on June 29, 2021.
Ms. Agatha Donyina, a trader in Ejura market told the committee investigating Ejura’s unrest on Friday that her son was not one of the angry youth.
She said her son, Louis Ayepa, a 20-year-old high school student who was ill and had returned from school was hit by what was later identified by medics as a bullet as he entered a pharmacy to buy Medicine.
She said she was in her bedroom when she saw on television that there was a clash between the youth and the police in the city.
“I called my son on the phone to make sure he was safe, but someone replied that he had gone to buy something. Right after that I got another call saying that my son had been killed.
I rushed to the hospital where I saw my son getting medical treatment, ”she told the Committee.
Ms Donyina said the son told her after regaining consciousness that he was walking into a pharmacy to buy medicine when something suddenly hit him.
He touched his stomach only to realize he was bleeding and enlisted the help of people around him who rushed him to hospital.
The woman who is a single mother of three appealed to the government through the Committee for support and justice for her son.
She said the son who is still admitted to Komfo Anokye University Hospital (KATH) had undergone surgery and responded to treatment and thanked Ejura chief and his elders for their support since the unfortunate incident.
Two people died while four others suffered injuries to varying degrees when young people from Ejura clashed with security forces in a violent protest on June 29, 2021.
The protest followed the murder of Ibrahim Mohammed, 45, also known as Kaaka, a social media activist.
Meanwhile, three people have been remanded in custody by Asokwa District Court following their arrest for Kaaka’s death.
Issakar Ibrahim, also known as Anyas, Fuseini Alhassan and Iddi Mohammed, Kaaka’s brother, face two counts: conspiracy to commit a crime and murder.
Home Secretary Ambrose Derry, under the direction of the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, appointed a three-member ministerial committee to examine the circumstances that led to the shooting of civilians during the riot.
The three-member ministerial committee investigating the unrest in Ejura is chaired by Judge George Kingsley Koomson, Court of Appeal Judge, with Mr Vladimir Antwi-Danso, Security Analyst and Ms Juliet Adima Amoah, Director executive of Penplusbyte, a civil society organization. , as members.
So far, 10 witnesses have appeared before the Committee to testify.

The testimony of a witness from Ejura was, however, taken in camera by the Committee for security reasons.
