Atletico Madrid are getting closer to signing striker Moussa Dembele from Lyon.
The French club’s sporting director, Juninho, has confirmed that negotiations are underway and the player wants a transfer.
Atletico boss Diego Simeone revealed on Monday that talks are at an advanced stage.
Lyonnais Juninho told Telefoot: “Moussa has come to see me, he thinks it’s time to change clubs. He told me he had lost some motivation.
“It was not something we had planned. Moussa is a player that I appreciate very much and we relied on him. But at the same time, to keep someone who does not want to live intensely for the next five months here is not ideal.
“So we are talking with Atletico. Nothing is done. I think Moussa has reached an agreement with Atletico, but he also needs ours. If he arrives, I wish him good luck.”
Dembele started his career at Fulham academy before a successful stint at Celtic.
Sky Sports News reported in 2019 that he was on Manchester United’s shortlist after selling Romelu Lukaku, but they signed Odion Ighalo instead.
