Staff would like the hotel's general manager to be fired
The staff of the Mövenpick Ambbadador Hotel in Accra has deposited its tools as a protest against what they describe as a racist treatment inflicted by the hotel management.
According to them, the unfair treatment has persisted since 2011.
A hundred staff members, who camped at the hotel's reception Wednesday night afternoon at the sound of drums and war songs, said that they would not return to their post as long as the hotel general manager Michael Rathgeb – who they claim to have overseen the racist treatment is dismissed.
Some hotel guests who were left without staff to help them joined the media to attend the event.
Some Graphic Online staff claimed that Ghanaian workers were severely treated and fired by the hotel when they committed crimes such as stealing pens, while expatriate employees were released when They stole guests.
They also alleged that an expatriate employee who had stolen gold bullion from a guest remains an employee of the hotel even after her arrest by the police.
