The National Theater of Ghana
Ridwan Dauda Abbad, MP for Sissala East, has asked the Legislature to support Ghana's National Theater so that it has the resources to promote the country's various dances.
According to him, the National Theater, with its national dance company, had raised different dances locally and internationally. Mr. Abbad made this appeal when he made a statement to Parliament on the occasion of International Dance Day.
International Dance Day is a global celebration of dance that takes place on April 29th each year. Before parliamentary proceedings began, members of the Ghana Dance Ensemble were in the hall of the Chamber to entertain members of Parliament and the leaders of Parliament.
The President, Professor Mike Oquaye; Senior Vice President Joseph Osei Owusu and Majority President Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu took some steps to synchronize with the drum beats of the Ghana Dance Ensemble.
Mr. Abbad, who is also a member of the National Theater Board of Ghana, explained that dance as an art, was an important and essential form of communication to the country's existence. , that we could also find in all the cultures of the world. stuck people together.
He said that the dance, once performed, elicited a great variety of emotions, happiness, enthusiasm, peace and sadness and that it announced that the National Theater had planned to raise 50 million GH to support its programs in the communities of the country.
He explained that dance in Ghana as a form of art was a performing arts, with social, cultural and economic parameters, for which the National Theater of Ghana had badumed responsibility. "We in the Council have reoriented the direction of the theater with a vision: to be the beacon of performing arts in Ghana."
Mr. Abbad also stated that, in the area of dance in particular, the Council strives to bring to the fore all that Ghana has to draw for cultural, tourist, educational, job-creating benefits. and in health. Mr. Haruna Iddrisu, leader of the minority, reiterated his request to provide the national theater with sufficient resources to enable it to fulfill its mandate.
He said that dance and cultural dances were important for promoting the custom and tradition of the people and instructed the new ruling patriotic party to keep the promise made in its campaign manifesto to build a theater in all regions of the country.
Ms. Catherine Afeku, former Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, said in her contribution that dance as a cultural tool was important for people to understand and appreciate the different cultural elements of Ghana.
She added that dancing was also an opportunity to create jobs for the country's young people in the theater and opera fields, adding that it reduces stress and makes viewers smile.
The International Day of Dance is a global celebration of dance, created by the Dance Committee of the International Theater Institute (ITI), UNESCO's leading performing arts partner.
This event takes place every year on April 29, anniversary of the birth of Jean-Georges Noverre (1727-1810), creator of modern ballet.
The day aims to encourage participation and education in dance through events and festivals around the world. UNESCO officially recognizes that the ITI is the creator and organizer of the event.
