Ms. Freda Prempeh, Member of Parliament for Tano North
Ms. Freda Prempeh, MP for the Tano North constituency in the Ahafo region, is currently building 50 mechanized boreholes at a cost of GH ¢ 20,000 to provide drinking water to poor communities in the region.
The deputy minister, who is the deputy minister responsible for the status of women, children and social welfare, has already built 21 holes for some of the communities in the riding.
The beneficiary communities are the Bredi, Abuom, Yamfo, Asukese, Bomaa, Subonpan, Manponteng, Campso, Tweaho, Susuanso, Afrisipakrom, Adongo, Tanoso, Ansen and Duyaw-Nkwanta communities.
In an interview with the Ghanaian news agency in Duayaw-Nkwanta, Prempeh said five other communities including Adrobaa, Koforidua, Rubi, Onwe and Gyaakye would also benefit from the drilling project.
In addition, 15 other communities have also been designated to benefit from the water supply project by the end of the year, she said.
The MP pointed out that the lack of safe and clean drinking water affected the health of the population, reduced productivity and contributed to the epidemic of communicable diseases.
She regretted that lack of water supply in many communities affects education because absenteeism, absenteeism and delays are common among teachers and students who have to travel for kilometers to fetch water in the streams.
Some of the communities have only one borehole, so women and children have to queue for hours before they can fetch water, she said.
Prempeh said MPs have the tough job of lobbying local and international authorities to advance development in their constituencies.
She has worked tirelessly to ensure that her constituents have easy access to social amenities to make their lives enjoyable.
Mr. Andrews Ofosuhene, Member of the Assembly for the Electoral District of Akotosua in Duayaw-Nkwanta, on behalf of the communities, thanked the hon. Member for her concern to improve the lot of the people of the constituency .
He said that the boreholes had brought relief to the population and hoped that the Tano North Municipal Assembly would also improve the poor road network in the area.
Mr Ofosuhene advised the communities to take care of the boreholes and also maintain them for their own benefit.
