Exercise of blood donation "Save a life"
Telecommunications giant MTN Ghana hopes to collect about 3,500 liters of blood during this year's "Save a Life" blood drive.
The annual Valentine's Day event, which offers MTN employees and the general public the opportunity to show their love by donating blood; aims to store the blood banks of various hospitals in the country.
This includes the National Blood Services, Ridge Hospital, Military Hospital 37 and other hospitals in the various regions.
In his address at the opening ceremony, MTN Ghana's General Service Manager, Samuel Koranteng, said that since the beginning of the 2011 fundraising exercise, the purpose of the company was to save lives and give a chance to patients needing blood.
According to him, the testimonies and successes recorded during the exercise over the years have also been encouraging.
"We have recorded many comforting stories of people who needed blood and who were saved through this exercise. Some of these stories have been told by our own staff while others come from our clients.
On a little more than 100 liters of blood recorded during our first exercise, we went very far. Today, we hope to collect 3,500 liters of blood from 19 bleeding centers across the country. Although ambitious, we hope to achieve this with the help and commitment of our customers. Since we started, we have collected about 9500 pints of blood and we can not wait to get over 10,000 pints. "
He further revealed that the telecommunications giant also had numerous projects and initiatives underway to improve the delivery of health care in the country.
