There is nothing worse than watching your children suffer from a virus – and especially a virus – parents often feel very helpless.
But a mom, whose eight-month-old son was suffering from a bad cold and an ear infection, decided to take things in hand to make it feel better.
Explaining that her family was on vacation in Canada at the time, Carol Heaton, a mother of two, had tried everything to make her son, Zavier, feel better.
And when a baby balm, saline spray and keeping her baby hydrated seemed to show little improvement, a family member suggested a centuries-old remedy.
"My family insisted that I try this old cure for it: a cough syrup with onion sugar," she told Kidspot.
"This has been used in my family for many years, my mother gave it to us when we were kids, I desperately needed to help her feel better and sleep myself."
Miraculously, in a few hours, Zavier began to show signs of improvement, the concoction easing the congestion in the chest and finally allowing him to spit phlegm.
The youth began to sleep better, which immediately improved his health.
"He slept better at night and the cough started to get better too," Carol said.
"To say that I was surprised would be a euphemism, Wow, something that actually works."
The recipe for cough syrup could not be easier (and cheaper) to prepare – and you probably already have the ingredients in your cabinet.
To prepare this preparation – which Carol says is suitable for children over six months old – you need a large brown onion and three tablespoons of white granulated sugar.
Simply cut the onion into large slices, sprinkle it with sugar and leave it in a small bowl for a few hours until the onion juice starts to accumulate in it. the dish.
Carol recommends giving your child a spoon every hour and providing full instructions on her website, Walk In Pantry.
If your child is not well and you are worried – or if you want to try a home remedy – always talk to your doctor first.
