Muntaka Mubarak and Ken Agyapong, Chief Whip of Minorities
Deputy Speaker of the Committee on Parliamentary Privileges, Mr. Andrew Kofi Agyapa Messer, said that the Asawase MP, Muntaka Mubarak, did not have the power to impose sanctions on the Member of Parliament. Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, although he has initiated a lawsuit against him.
The vice president said the committee had the prerogative to sanction the maverick politician, so the NDC MP called for the suspension of Kennedy Agyapong.
He said that no member has the power to recommend sanctions to the committee.
The committee may recommend the suspension or dismissal of the member for Assin Central as part of his recommendations, but Muntaka Mubarak can not make such a suggestion because he is the complainant.
He also indicated that the committee had not yet reached a decision on the mode of hearing regarding the complaints filed by Muntaka Mubarak regarding statements made by Kennedy Agyapong.
Muntaka Mubarak, who is the chief minority bad, wants Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong to be suspended from Parliament for the remainder of the session.
According to the Member of Parliament for Asawase, he will argue in favor of this sanction when he will appear before the Privileges Committee to defend his colleague from contempt of Parliament.
