Snapchat could soon become more musical.

Snap has been "in discussion" with a number of record companies for the purpose of negotiating agreements that would allow the company to add more music to its application, according to a recent report released in November. The Wall Street Journal. Discussions are not yet final but have "intensified in recent weeks".

If these discussions resulted in licensing agreements, this would mean that Snapchat could add music features similar to Instagram and TikTok, which allow users to add short clips of popular songs to their posts. This is also the last sign that Snap wants to do more to attract TikTok fans to his service.

The app added a Lip Sync Lens Challenge feature in December, allowing users to create lip sync videos with augmented reality effects. But this feature is locked inside goals, so it's not as easily accessible as music in other apps like Instagram. Adding the ability to include music clips in any video from Snapchat would likely solve this problem.

Previously, Facebook had made agreements with record companies and had since added a number of new music features, including the ability to add songs to your profile, as well as a lip sync feature.

But perhaps its most popular (or at least visible) music feature is the Spotify integration of Instagram. So, although we do not know exactly what the Snapchat version will look like, or how it might work, it does seem that the company wants to offer music fans a similar experience.
