Musician threatens mass protest following floods in Accra

The Ghanaian mayor, inspired musician, The Bbad Prophet, has threatened to embark on a major protest if the government does not put in place appropriate measures to resolve the constant floods in Accra.

This initiative follows a series of floods that swept properties and expelled thousands of Accra residents from their homes. The most recent one, which took place on Wednesday, May 29, would have cost the life.

The government has always called for a change of attitude on the part of citizens, especially with regard to the dumping of garbage into gutters or drains, but the problem persists.

But Mayor The Bbad Prophet believes that if a mbadive demonstration is made, the government will critically examine the problem and fix it.

"We are demonstrating because the floods in Accra have destroyed lives and property for a very long time, and nothing seems to be done," the singer said in an interview on Friday, May 31. "We simply can not sit down without worrying because who knows, the next time it's raining, it may be me or a loved one."

The mayor recently released a song called "Keep Ghana Clean" and seized the opportunity to launch a campaign for a clean Ghana, but wants to fight floods in the meantime.

He has a solution for floods. He thinks that if the gutters are stripped, widened, bound and properly covered, we will not see the floods anymore.

"Since all Ghanaians count in this life, I encourage all Ghanaians (Tom, Dick and Harry) to join with me in fighting for our rights and demanding policies to ensure that the gutters are built with more cover. "

"The devastation of plastics in our country, Ghana, is heartbreaking and uncivilized. We can not even tell our own stories with confidence every time we travel, because the information on our gutters choked with dirt is everywhere on the Internet. I'm sorry, we demand immediate action now. "

The mayor has given the deadline for this strike – which is at the end of this year. And it would involve all Ghanaians.

He thinks that if the problem is solved, the tourism sector will receive momentum and Ghanaians "will taste the sweetness of cleanliness".
