Youth and Sports Minister Mustapha Ussif said the country’s youth have an important role to play in moving the country forward and urged them to continue to be actively involved in nation building constructively.
Speaking at the opening of International Youth Day 2021, the Hon. Ussif said that young people make up the majority of the country’s population and that if the country is to achieve its development goals, young people must play a key role.
International Youth Day 2021 is marked by a global theme “Transforming Food Systems: Youth Innovation for Human and Planetary Health”, and the Minister noted that the theme had been judiciously chosen because it corresponds to the objectives of development of the government of President Akufo. -Addo.
Urging young people to take advantage of government initiatives, particularly in agriculture, the Hon. Ussif stressed that agriculture is an important sector of the economy that young people have avoided, stressing that it is rather a critical area that energetic young people should consider venturing into.
“HE President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, firmly believes that young people are an essential element and a pivot around which the transformation agenda of our nation must revolve. This, Ladies and Gentlemen, is demonstrated by the many transversal interventions initiated, including agricultural development programs, ”said Ussif.
“Ghana’s Medium-Term Development Policy Framework, the President’s Coordinated Program for Economic and Social Development (2017-2024) which aims to use Ghana’s resources more effectively to create rich, inclusive, sustainable, empowered and empowered youth. resilient (WISER) and a commitment to supporting commercial agriculture and most importantly attracting educated young people into commercial agriculture are some of those government interventions, policies and programs that are worth mentioning.
“Distinguished guests, it is also instructive to note that 110,000 jobs were created in 2020 through the implementation of various programs in the cocoa sector, mainly to curb the incidence of rural-urban migration and improve the means of subsistence. “
“It is on this note, ladies and gentlemen, that I want to call on young people to start seeing agriculture as a viable economic enterprise and a solution to unemployment.
“So I ask you to take ownership of the transformation and innovation of agriculture here in Ghana. I also urge you to remain optimistic because there is indeed a light at the end of the tunnel. “
