The deceased body has since been dropped off at the morgue of Tamale University Hospital.
The crime scene inspection by the police resulted in the recovery of a shell.
DGN estimated that on 30 July 2019, the deceased was accompanied by two other staff members at the Kumbungu Road checkpoint near the Star Oil grading station.
At approximately 8:45 pm, an ash colored lounge car was reported to the stop-watch when approaching the checkpoint.
About four occupants of the salon car were reportedly armed and dressed in military camouflage. They wore face masks and dessert boots.
Another police woman tried to take cover and stumbled. His weapon and that of the deceased were confiscated by the thieves.
The third officer, who had then taken shelter, shot the thieves but they managed to escape with both weapons.
The regional commander accompanied by other officers went to the scene and found the deceased in a pool of blood.
Divisional Police Commander Lamashegu, Supt. Zoiku Dinam, who confirmed the incident to DGN Online, said that the police had not yet informed the family of the deceased of the incident, adding that she was to use the structures of appropriate police.
