Naahaa 1d1f Farmers donated "Khebab" soybeans to minister

The Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Professor Frimpong Kwabena Boateng, has promised to create a soybean plant as part of the One-District One-Factory, at the Intended for Naahaa farmers to promote the Sustainable Soil and Water Management Project.

During a working visit to the north of the country, as part of the SLWMP, the minister said the project fits perfectly into the government's flagship programs: "Plant to feed and create jobs" , "A district, a factory" and "A village, a dam". among others, and that he was going to lobby other ministries to endow the community with a plant and a dam.

He said water was essential to the success of the SLWM project. He decided to coordinate his activities with the government to provide the community with a dam under the One Village One dam as a catalyst for the project.

Farmers offered "Khebab" soybeans to the minister and his team as proof of what they can produce.

The minister said farmers had raised many concerns, including lack of drinking water, lack of CHIPS compounds, bush fires and lack of roads linking communities to farms, among other obstacles to success of the project and that he would coordinate with other agencies to solve these problems.

He was impressed by the way in which farmers who have been trained under the SLWM project apply the technology used on their farms to stimulate crop production and fight bush fires.
He said the project aimed to make Ghana a "food basket" of the West African sub-region.

"For two years, Ghana has been exporting food to neighboring countries such as Mali, Togo and Burkina Faso," he said.
Mr. Tahiru Idrisu, one of the beneficiaries, said the program had sensitized them on bushfire prevention, prevention of soil erosion, soil fertility restoration, conservation moisture on farmland, reforestation, among others.

He stated that the farms in his group, planted with food crops, inspected by the minister during the visit, testified to this project and called on the government to increase production.
