Naby Keita told Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp that he would do everything possible to help the Reds win the race for German striker Timo Werner this summer.
The 22-year-old RB Leipzig striker postponed his decision to a later date. His contract expiring in the summer of 2020, he is expected to be sold by the Bundesliga club this summer.
In December Bild reported that Jurgen Klopp was considering a move to Wernerand now Keita – who played with the striker for two seasons in Leipzig, weighed in speculations linking him to a move to Liverpool.
"We played very well together in Leipzig and he was one of my best friends there," said Keita in quotation marks. BuLi News relayed from an interview with Sport Bild.
"It's clear: if he'll be moving, I'll ask Timo to join us here in Liverpool."
Keita moved to Merseyside on a £ 52.75 million deal last summer, but the 23-year-old had problems with fitness and fitness since the move and struggled to get a regular start under Klopp.
It is not surprising that the midfielder wants Liverpool to be represented by Werner, neither club has confirmed that Liverpool's interest in Werner is real.
But his contract expiring in 17 months, it would not be surprising to see Klopp aim for a move for the 22-year-old German striker, with a commission of about 40 million euros this summer.
The Reds should be on the market for a new center-forward – Daniel Sturridge should leave at the end of his contract and was tied to Tottenham on Tuesday – and Werner would seem to do the business.
However, Ralf Rangnick thinks that Werner should beware of joining Keita in the Premier League, The boss from Leipzig mentioned the difficulties of the Guinean as a reason why he should think twice before moving.
He said Sky in Germany, via Buli News"Keita was an outstanding player here, but he's still fighting in Liverpool.
"So far, it's not the player who was there. The surroundings must be perfect for Timo. This is the case here.
