The world number 253, Naiktha Bains, officially asked the WTA and the ITF to change its Australian nationality to a British player.
Bains, 21, was born in Leeds but emigrated to Brisbane at the age of eight and has dual nationality.
She has won two singles and 12 doubles titles on the ITF circuit.
