NALAG holds its 20th Biennial Conference of Delegates in Sunyani

"For us, in the local government sector, the vision of Ghana Beyond Aid and the SDGs will therefore be largely realized if we work diligently and effectively to implement the government's flagship programs and global goals," he said. he declares.

MB Amoah delivered the keynote address at the 20th Biennial Conference of Representatives of the National Association of Local Authorities of Ghana (NALAG) in Sunyani.

The three-day conference, which ends today, Friday, June 14, 2019, is on the theme "Ghana Beyond Help; a paradigm shift for sustainable development, the role of local authorities, brought together metropolitan, municipal and district leaders, presidents and members of the badembly, and many others.

As part of the conference, delegates will elect new national leaders of the badociation to lead the business for the next two years.

The deputy minister said that as local authorities, revenue mobilization in the country's local governance system was one of the key roles it had to carry out the program of action beyond the help in Ghana.

"Since Ghana Beyond Aid can not succeed without effective local governance, it is essential to promote accountability in local governance," said the government's plan to elect MMDCEs as a "bold and courageous decision."

According to him, the Ministry of Local Government has put in place political interventions to improve metropolitan, municipal and district badembly capacity for income generation.

Among them, he said, study and publish fee-setting guidelines to guide the rates and process for setting MMDA fees, develop a strategy and reference guide for the IGF, digitize streets and property and develop a digital platform facilitating the issuance of permits, among several others.

Mr. OB Amoah, also MP for Akwapim South, urged NALAG leaders to work with members to intensify their efforts to avoid over reliance on central government transfers by improving the mobilization of the FG and linking collecting service delivery rates by dedicating a larger portion of their IGF to development projects.

Bono Regional Minister Evelyn Ama Kumi-Richardson, for her part, acknowledged NALAG's key role in Ghana's decentralization process and the progress made to date.

"The achievements of our decentralization process can not and should not be flouted without recognizing the key role played by NALAG, especially because members are the driving force behind all policy implementation in our quest to bring governance local to the doors of our citizens, "she says.
