President Akufo-Addo has appointed Nalerigu capital of the Northeast region.

The president announced the selection at a ceremony held at the presidency to present Tuesday the constitutional instrument supporting the establishment of the region.

This is the first of six to be named. According to a statement by the presidency, the remaining 5 members will be appointed until Friday, 15 February.

The presentation follows the referendum of December 27, 2018, during which the inhabitants of the recruitment zones of the six proposed new regions voted in favor of mbadive support for the creation of these regions.

Nalerigu is the largest city of the East Mamprusi Municipal Assembly.

Prior to Tuesday's announcement, leaders from various communities such as Walewale, Nalerigu and Gambaga, all from the newly created region, had made several calls for the designation of their respective communities as capital.

The chairman instructed Northern Minister Salifu Saeed to act as alternate minister for the new region until the appointment of a deputy minister.

"Nalerigu has been chosen as the capital of the Northeast region," said President Akufo-Addo to the great joy of the meeting.

He also expressed his optimism about the development of the region with the cooperation of all the inhabitants.

"Government projects and structures will be evenly distributed in the region. Let us work together and I am confident that the Northeast region, with its dedication and commitment, will grow and touch the lives of every resident and help us build the great nation of Ghana that we all want. "

The president also presented the constitutional instrument "CI-116" certifying the creation of the North-East region to the head of the delegation, Nayiri Nabohagu Mahami Sheriga.
