The lawyers for Menzgold's chief executive, Nana Appiah Mensah, have asked for a change in the bailout of 1 billion GH ¢ and related conditions set by the court.
It is reported that Nana Appiah Mensah (known in showbiz circles as NAM 1) was not able to comply with the terms of the bail even though he was released on bail by a circuit court in Accra last week.
As a result, is still in custody.
The court, presided over by Mrs. Jane Harriet Akweley Quaye, on July 26, granted him a deposit of 1 billion GH ¢, with five sureties.
In accordance with the bail conditions ordered by the court, three of the sureties must be justified, while NAM 1 must also report to the Ghana Police Service every Wednesday.
Mensah, his attorney, Mr. Kwame Akuffo, and some of the supporters in the courtroom were surprised by the bail of 1 billion GH ¢.
Mr. Akuffo asked the court to reduce the amount, but the President stated that, given the circumstances and the amount indicated on the indictment, she had been generous with the amount of the bond .
Context
Prosecutors accused Mensah, his wife (Rose Tetteh) and his sister (Benedicta Mensah) of being Menzgold's chief officers, and of using the tool to defraud more than 16,000 people of GH ¢ 1,680,920,000.
The three defendants, Menzgold, and his sister company, Brew Marketing Consult Limited (both represented by NAM 1), were charged with 13 counts.
The prosecution leaders commit fraud under false pretenses, fraud by false pretenses, unlicensed filing activities, unlicensed mineral sales, unlicensed mineral sales, contraventions of unlawful deposit, illegal illegal deposit and money laundering.
Mensah pleaded not guilty to all charges. His wife and sister, however, are on the run.
