Social auditing is an innovative mechanism to promote community ownership of development projects, increase awareness of local government activities, and empower people to hold government accountable to strengthen citizen participation in local governance.
Acquah said many Ghanaians took a long break after participating in the elections, saying the situation weakened the foundation of democracy.
He reminded the badembly that political participation was not limited to voting and that citizens should strive to be actively involved in local governance by monitoring and evaluating development projects. their communities and taking action to address any shortcomings identified.
Mr. Acquah explained that paragraph 1 of Article 1 of the 1992 Constitution gave the population the power to hold those responsible to account and that Articles 40 to 48 of the Local Government Act also encouraged citizen participation.
He said active participation in governance would strengthen Ghana's democratic skills.
A social audit committee was set up to initiate interaction with local authorities on issues raised during the ceremony.
