He described the tourism sector as one of the most important sectors of the Ghanaian economy and spoke of the interventions put in place by his administration to further develop the sector.

He said: "Under my watch, the tourism sector is receiving the necessary boost with the rising status of the Cabinet of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture. The Tourism Authority recorded gains and growth according to several indices – visitor arrivals, visitor per capita spending, number of establishments, number of tourist facilities, etc. since we took the reins of government. "

The President explained: "I am also aware of several tourist improvement programs such as the Axim Fort St. Antonio project, the Assin Manso Slave River project, the Tetteh Quarshie cocoa farm, Bunso Aboretrem, the Kintampo waterfalls. and the Elmina Heritage Bay project.

He added that "this, along with the automated one-stop destination program and marketing programs -" Visit Ghana, See Ghana, Eat Ghana, Wear Ghana and Feel Ghana "are all part of the comprehensive plans of transformation of the sector. "

According to him, "The World Bank's current $ 40 million tourism development program is also an additional badet in the growth of our tourism sector.

Mr. Akufo-Addo emphasized that "tourism is a multisector industry and that various other sectors – roads, skills development, sanitation, aviation and visa regime are all tackled in a multisectoral way to achieve the necessary impact".

He indicated that "the theme chosen for today's event," celebrating our heritage, "resonates with the" Year of Return "project that I proudly launched in front of the black caucus of the US Congress in September 2018. ".
