The National Accreditation Board (NAB) has warned the public against accepting honorary doctoral degrees from Commonwealth University and the London Graduate School in the United Kingdom.

According to a press release signed by his Acting Executive Secretary, Dr. Kingsley Nyarko, Commonwealth University and the London Graduate School are not empowered by the relevant body to award any form of diploma, whatever it is. either ordinary or honorary.

He stated: "We are therefore publishing this notice to warn the dignitaries who will be rewarded by such institutions with so-called honorary degrees in order to avoid exposing themselves to unnecessary embarrbadment and ridicule. .

According to the statement, "this is one of the cases in which some foreign institutions award such honorary degrees, especially doctorates, to prominent people in order to legitimize and popularize their operations in Ghana, thus attracting unsuspecting students. "

He explained that "it must be clearly established that universities and other higher education institutions not accredited by the competent authorities of their country of origin can not be authorized to issue any degree – regular or honorary in Ghana ".

The statement stressed that "the National Bureau of Accreditation wishes to warn all citizens and let them know that personalities invited to such awards should check the accreditation status and credentialing powers of institutions seeking to award them honorary degrees in order to avoid embarrbading mistakes.
