NC company recalling 28 tons of "hot filled sandwiches"

HOLLY RIDGE, N.C. (AP / WNCN) – Federal officials have announced that a North Carolina company was recalling 28 tonnes of "hot-filled sandwiches" across the country.

The recall is due to concerns about the possible presence of plastic in certain foods, which have been shipped to stores across the country.

J & J Snack Foods handhelds are located in Holly Ridge, Onslow County, near Jacksonville.

The problem was discovered when customers complained about the problem, officials said.

The Food Inspection and Safety Department of the United States Department of Agriculture warned consumers not to eat sandwiches stuffed with pepperoni and ham and cheese sold in 9 ounce cardboard packaging.

The recall note is "high", which indicates "there is a reasonable likelihood that the use of the product will result in serious consequences, adverse to health or death," according to the USDA.

The USDA said the company was recalling 56,000 pounds of products manufactured on February 19 and 20 that could contain "semi-transparent plastic".

The recalled articles are:

9 oz Cardboard packaging containing 2 stuffed pepperoni sandwiches with the inscription "Hot Sandwiches stuffed with PIZZA from Bremer CLASSIC PEPPERONI" and are preferable if they are used on "August 12, 2020" or "August 13" 2020 "appearing on the label.
